Sago Gula Melaka





The picture above is one of our member homemade Sago Gula Melaka or in English Sago with palm sugar. That dessert is one of our favourite Malaysian desserts as the texture of chewy pearl sago soaked in combination of sweet gula melaka (palm sugar) and fragrant santan (coconut milk). Actually what is sago? Pearl sago is a starch that comes from sago palm ang generally nutritious. It’s so easy to make Sago Gula Melaka or Sago Pudding. The ingredients that should be have are sago, palm sugar (gula Melaka), coconut milk (santan)and pandan leaves. Must Try It!!!

How to cook it?
·         In a pot : add 1 cup of sago and 3 cups of water and cook sago on low fire.
·         Keep stirring the sago as to ensure the sago pearls do not clump and cook until sago becomes transparent.
·         Pour sago into a strainer and wash off excess starch in running cold water.
·         Pour into small dessert bowls or muffin tray in which you’ll serve your dessert and put into the fridge to set and chill for an hour.
·         In other pot, pour in20 gm of  coconut milk, pandan leaves and salt. Stir constantly to avoid it becoming clump and boil in low fire until it bubbles. After done, set aside to cool.
·         In another pot, melt 200 gm chopped palm sugar and three tablespoon of water on low fire. It should take about 5 minutes.
·         Serve pudding with palm sugar syrup and coconut milk.
